Boerner Botanical Gardens & Bartolotta

Atrium of the Education and Visitor Center According to the National Park and Recreation Association, one of the most significant attributes of the park and recreation profession is the capacity to partner. Milwaukee County Parks has done just that with The Bartolotta Restaurant Group.

Partnerships have become an important element in Parks and Recreation Departments across the nation helping to sustain funding and help keeping the idea that parks are for people. According to Timothy M. Tompkins, founder and director of New York City's 'Partnerships for Parks' program, "Parks that thrive, rather than simply survive, are those that have active communities caring and fighting for them. Government and communities working together can use parks as a focal point for revitalizing not only parks, but also neighborhoods and cities that surround them." With more and more cuts in funding to Park and Recreation Departments across the nation, partnership development is vital in keeping our parks thriving.

The Bartolotta Restaurant Group is just one example of such an important partnership that helps keep the Boerner Botanical Gardens thriving. Some of you may recall the Botanical Gardens as the last stop along the 2006 WPRA Summer Parks & Recreation Tour, which ended with a spectacular luncheon in the Garden Room provided by Bartolotta's.
