Tax Preparation Assistance for 2010

Things you should know:

 

AARP TaxAide (Click Here)

AARP serves low and middle income taxpayers with special attention to those age 60 and over.

Staff at these sites can prepare returns which involve more complex issues such as taxable refunds, alimony, simple business income, capital gains (such as from stock sales) IRA distribution, pensions, penalties from early withdrawal from savings accounts, IRA deductions, social security benefits and some other tax items.

 

SDC VITA sites (Click here)

VITA serves individuals who earn less than $56,000 annually.
The VITA site at MATC-Downtown is staffed by the Dept of Revenue and serves anyone who cannot aford to pay for assistance.

VITA super sites (SDC Richards St, SDC Teutonia Ave, and SDC Chase Ave) also offer assistance with prior year's tax returns and info or pre-screening for other benefits including FoodShare and Energy Assistance.

 

Neither VITA nor AARP TaxAide offers assistance to homebound individuals.
Relatives or close friends may bring the necessary materials to a regular AARP TaxAide site on behalf of a homebound individual
